After connecting the GSM modem with a SIM card to the Raspberry Pi on the last post(http://devcreating.wordpress.com/2014/07/13/how-to-connect-a-gsm-modem-to-a-computer-with-linux/), I am sure you want to do something with it. For example, sending and receiving SMS. In order to do that, there are two programs that are easy to install: Gnoki and Gammu. has made a great job explaining how to do that with Gnokii on the next link :

But I wanted something to use as a daemon, and to be able to send messages just making plain inserts in DB. So here is the Gammu installation guide.

We install  first the gammu-smsd (Gammu sms daemon):
>sudo apt-get install gammu-smsd

Database has to be created (I assume mysql is already installed. Also notice that, in order the Gammu daemon to work, you need to have installed mysql as a daemon also):
